HENRI MATISSE 1869-1954

In the last decade of his life, when poor health prevented him from painting, Henri Matisse turned to cut paper as his primary medium, inventing the cut-out. Matisse used a pair of scissors to create plants, animals, figures, and shapes, transforming paint and paper. Gradually, Matisse preferred cut-outs over painting, and produced some of his most memorable work.
